Mid week accommodation should be easier and cost less than a weekend.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e A buffet lunch with tea and coffee for both days is included in the price.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWorkshop for 6 people.\u003cspan\u003e   \u003c\/span\u003eThis allows plenty of space and a separate table for each person.\u003cspan\u003e  There is unrestricted parking on all the roads around the hotel.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cb\u003eA 6 month free membership to my Patreon Channel will be given at the end of the workshop to each person attending.  This will be a great way to refresh on the various techniques that we cover.\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJAN HORROX\u003c\/strong\u003e will guide you through all the basic cloth doll making techniques .\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe will first make the four part sculpted head as shown in JAN’S books, then drawing and colouring the face onto the sculpted head.\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e We shall be making a cloth doll from a pattern supplied by Jan at the workshop.  This pattern will include a four part sculpted head with drawn features.  It has a fairly simple body which is shaped, three alternatives of arms with variations of hands, and three alternative styles of leg.  You can choose to make a jointed doll, a seated doll or a straight legged doll.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe patterns we shall use are all for an 16\/18” doll (as in my books) If you keep the pattern templates ,which are all interchangeable,\u003cspan\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003eyou can use them to make many dolls in the future.  I shall include the rabbit head and kitty head.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can make fairies, elves, angels, mermaids, witches, fairy tale characters or something more personal to you. Maybe a friend or family member portrait.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e If you are a beginner it will be best to stick to a simple construction doll and focus on the head, face and hands – these are the things most people find tricky to begin with.  \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe shall include different types of hair and how to attach to the head.\u003cspan\u003e  \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e If you can bring a picture or have a good idea of what style of doll you want to make, this will help you decide on your fabrics and trims.  This year I’m encouraging everyone to arrive with ideas about what they want their doll to look like.  If you want to make a first doll and keep it simple she can still look stunning when you leave.  I don’t normally do complicated joints in a 2 day workshop because there just isn’t time but I’m hoping to show you some samples so that when you are working on your own you have some idea of what they entail.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e If you have any queries on what you want to do – please do email me and we can discuss it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e I supply a kit to each person which includes:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e Pima or Kona  cotton fabric – 1\/2 metre - enough for one doll.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChenille sticks ( for wiring fingers)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBag of filling\/stuffing ( enough for one doll)\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e3 x long darning needles for sculpting the face.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e  I also bring for use during the workshop, plenty of the following:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e Forceps and chop sticks for stuffing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eLong Doll Needles\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFine pens for drawing in all colours on the face.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePencil crayons for colouring the faces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFine mechanical pencils\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFrixion marker pens\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eQuilting and extra strong threads.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFinger Turning tools.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003cstrong\u003eYou will need to bring:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA sewing machine in good order\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is ESSENTIAL to have an open quilting or embroidery foot or a clear foot.  If you imagine machining with a small stitch around small fingers – you need to be able to see exactly what you are doing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNatural polyester thread for machining.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSharp embroidery scissors and good sewing scissors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePaper scissors for cutting out the pattern.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eColoured or patterned cotton fabric for the dressing of the doll.  Best to use a good strong cotton fabric – quilting cotton fabric is ideal – for the doll body pieces as the fabric has to take quite a lot of stress when stuffed.  Some synthetics can be difficult to work with but silks can be good for costume skirts etc.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDon’t use anything that frays badly.  Small amounts of fabric are fine – bring things from your stash.
